You signed up online in California for a $34.99 a month meal kit subscription. The website has no cancel button and tells you to phone during office hours, and the next charge is due on November 8.

It asks permission, gives a reason they can argue with, and sets no end date or deadline.

Good to know
- Stopping a payment does not end a contract. The written notice does, so it sends that first.
- Deleting an app does not cancel the subscription. It shows where to cancel instead.
- Online and doorstep sign-ups often have a short cooling-off period. It tells you to check yours.
- If you are inside a minimum term, it tells you honestly and works out the cheapest way out.
- It writes, you send. Nothing goes out for you.
