The situation
You booked a DJ for your 40th birthday party for £850, with the deposit on your credit card. Nine days before the party they cancelled by text, and a last-minute replacement cost £1,050.

As you cancelled, I am asking for the £850 I paid plus the £200 extra cost of the replacement.

Good to know
- A non-refundable deposit rarely covers a supplier who did not turn up or cancelled.
- If you cancelled, it asks the supplier to show its real loss, including whether the date was rebooked.
- It will not help you threaten a bad review. That usually weakens your case.
- Where it is not sure of a rule in your country, it tells you to check the official site.
