The situation
You found a used e-bike for £650 on an online marketplace. The seller asked for a bank transfer to hold it, then blocked you. You reported it to your bank by phone on 30 October.

On 29 October 2026 I agreed to buy a used e-bike from a seller I found on an online marketplace. The listing had photos and a price of £650, and the seller sent me a video of the bike, so it seemed real. They asked me to pay by bank transfer to hold it. I sent £650 by Faster Payments to an account at another UK bank.
The seller then stopped replying and blocked me. No bike was delivered. I attach the listing, the messages and the payment details.
Please reimburse £650 under the APP scam reimbursement rules and confirm your decision in writing by 6 November 2026, five business days from my report.

No dates, no amounts, no payment type and no rule named, so the bank cannot act on it.

On 28 October a caller said they were from your fraud team and told me to move my money to a safe account. I believed them and made two Faster Payments: £2,400 and £1,600, total £4,000. Good to know
- Card payments and UK bank transfers are often recoverable. Crypto, gift cards and cash rarely are, and it says so.
- Anyone who offers to recover your money for a fee is almost always a second scam.
- It never writes to the scammer. Every message goes to your bank, a platform or an official body.
